My Other Life As A Tree Frog

A drama workshop for ages 8 -10+

Friday 27 September, 2024 | 10am | GPAC Town Hall Theatre

Do you like making up crazy, imaginative stories? Do you enjoy pretending you’re a whole other character in a whole other place and time? How about meeting new friends who like doing the exact same thing? Then this is a holiday workshop for you.

Em Chandler invites you to join an adventure that focuses on the power of ‘transformation’ and ‘endowment’. Together you will help them to make up wild, weird, magical stories, and bring them to life with everyday objects. Can a fork become a magic wand? Can a blanket become the ocean, or a chair become a spaceship on its way to Jupiter?

It sure can – and in this workshop you will get to explore all this and more.  Some children have big imaginations but are shy when it comes to performing. Some children see magical worlds but find expressing their ideas challenging. Endowing everyday objects and transforming them into new and incredible things is a wonderful way of opening the door to self-expression and confidence. To try new things. To bounce ideas off other children and to belong.

Em Chandler (she/they) is a lauded storyteller, magician, and theatre-maker, bringing her unique repertoire of spells, stories and songs to intimate community events or major festivals.

The Librarian

A bookish circus adventure

Thursday 26 September| 11am & 1pm |  GPAC Little Theatre

At first glance, Paul-Émile Dumoulin seems like just a regular librarian. He is serious, proud and very orderly. Every book is in its place on his impeccable shelves.

The only problem? As soon as Paul-Émile gets his nose in a book, reality disappears, giving way to the slightly crazy worlds he discovers between the pages.

On his adventures, the very sensible librarian metamorphoses. He suddenly turns into strange and silly characters who perform acrobatics, balancing, juggling, break dancing and beatboxing. Just how far will reading take him?

This show blends clowning, physical theatre and the circus arts. It invites young audiences to discover the passion of reading and the power of the imagination, which whisks readers away to faraway lands, on an adventure, or into a romance or thriller.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep.

You Are A Doughnut

A biological-musical-comedy-adventure — that explores the ins and outs of the human digestive system.

It’s true! YOU are a great big fleshy lump with a remarkable hole running all the way through your middle — your digestive system.

Join biology teachers Oesoph A. Gus and Dewey Dean as they embark upon an utterly brilliant all-singing, all-dancing (and all-clowning!) exploration of every twisting tube and remarkable organ — with sketches, songs, and sensational science. Along the way you’ll encounter a frenzy of enzyme-powered ping pong balls, sing along with a rainbow collection of poop puppets, and witness the weirdest poetry performance you’ve ever seen.

You Are a Doughnut is a ‘riot of fun’ (The Clothesline) and a ‘sure winner for the whole family’ (Glam Adelaide) — presented by the ‘masters of educational entertainment’ (Play & Go).

It’s a little bit gross — and a ‘hole’ lotta fun! (You might even learn something…).
