Polytropos: Live in Yinnar

Combining the beautiful and spirited interplay of traditional instruments, Polytropos perform tunes and songs from Scotland, Ireland, France and Canada. Arranging the sounds of the fiddle, flute, guitar, Scottish smallpipes, mandolin, voice and Irish whistle in curious and adventurous ways, their diverse range of tunes will take the listener around the world of traditional music!

Kiwi multi-instrumentalists Oscar West and Rennie Pearson are the traditional music duo Polytropos. They are masterful, passionate players of Celtic music, arranged in an adventurous, conversational way. “Polytropos” comes from ancient Greek and appears hundreds of times in Homer’s Odyssey. It’s many possible translations range from “much-travelled” to “many-faced” to “a thing of many twists and turns.” All of these connotations feel perfect to describe the music we seek to create: dynamic, much-wandering journeys through tunes songs and a musical tradition that had travelled half a world to reach us in New Zealand. Polytropos released their first album in 2020. Since their debut concert at Wellington Folk Festival in 2011 their unique, charismatic stage presence and playing style has been a hit with audiences at festivals and tours across New Zealand and Australia from tiny churches to big stages.

Tom Curtain Music

Tom Curtain is a nationally acclaimed singer/ songwriter. This tour coincides with the release of his fifth studio album Nothin’s Gonna Stop Us – the first release of this album “Why We Live Out Here” has had great success, remaining in the Country Songs Australian Airplay Chart for 10 months. His last album We’re Still Here debuted at No.1 on the Australian Country Music Charts with all four singles released from the album also going to No.1.

In 2018 Tom won two Golden Guitar Awards for his single “Never Never Land”, a duet with Luke O’Shea. Tom was also awarded the prestigious 2018 Australian Independent Country Music Artist of the Year Award together with Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year (Territory Time) and Single of the Year(“Never Never Land”) at the Southern Stars Australian Independent Country Music Awards.

Tom is also an official ambassador of Dolly’s Dream. To date, over $35,000 has been raised by the Katherine Outback Experience and Outback Productions through the sale of the song and branded shirts. These donations are used to provide useful and powerful tools for schools, children and family members (www.dollysdream.org.au) to fight online bullying.
