Forget Me Not – An Oral History Workshop
History is more than just the big events that everyone remembers. History is the everyday stories that reveal, rekindle, and capture the heart of a community, whatever age you are.
Sunday 20 October, 2024 | 11am | Town Hall Theatre
In this oral history workshop, you will collaborate with other people to reminisce, remember, and share a few yarns. Bring a friend or come by yourself. The workshop is about the past and the present. About how times have changed and how they have not. It is about celebrating the little histories that say so much about who we were and where we are going.
People are hungry for stories. It is part of our very being. Storytelling is a form of history, of immortality too. It goes from one generation to another. — Studs Terkel
You will spend the first half of the workshop taking part in a series of fun, drama/storytelling, social activities, designed to help everyone ‘chill-out’ and feel comfortable working as a team. Come prepared with any memories and stories.
In the second half of the workshop, every participant will be invited to audio-record a three-minute story (think of it like a podcast). You will be able to tell the story yourself, or work with a partner to share the story, or even ask someone else to record your story for you. There will be no pressure to be recorded if you do not want to.
The workshop includes a lunchbreak, so remember to BYO nourishment or there is food available from Polly Baker Cafe at GPAC.
