Gesture, Movement and Mark-Making with TWOONE

Join artist Hiroyasu Tsuri, known as TWOONE, for an experimental painting workshop exploring movement, gesture and intuitive mark-making.

Beginning with an introduction to his practice and the ideas behind Ukiyo-e: Responding to Tradition | TWOONE Hiroyasu Tsuri and LRG Collection, TWOONE will guide participants through his approach to what he describes as “physical action as thinking form”.

Rather than planning every mark, participants will be encouraged to think through movement and discover how physical action can become another way of making and understanding an image.

Working on small canvases with a limited palette of blue and white, participants will experiment with brushes, palette knives, water, hands and other simple tools. Inspired by flowers and local native plants, each participant will create a series of expressive studies that prioritise process, movement and experimentation over producing a “correct” image.

For ages 12 and up, no previous painting experience is required.
