Boolarra

While Boolarra may be small in population, with around 400 people living in this tight-knit, welcoming community, it’s packed with things to do. The local economy is based primarily on agriculture, forestry and tourism, and it is known for its rich and diverse natural landscapes.

Boolarra was founded in the late 1800s as a timber town and was later home to several coal mines. Today, the town is a popular destination for visitors coming to explore the nearby forests and national parks, go hiking or mountain biking, or enjoy several outdoor activities that the area has to offer.

For those looking to get outdoors, Boolarra is home to the Grand Ridge Rail Trail which leads walkers 13 kilometres to Mirboo North, close to Morwell River Falls and Tarra-Bulga National Park. Plus, the town hosts several community events throughout the year, such as the Boolarra Folk Festival.
