Home of the International Rose Garden Festival, Morwell offers a unique mixture of events, arts, natural attractions, and a diverse range of industries supporting the local economy.

Like many towns in the region, Morwell was founded in the 1860s due to the discovery of coal. These were the early stages of the town’s development, which has now seen it grow to become one of the most popular and thriving towns in Latrobe.

A great place to raise a family, Morwell boasts a variety of schools, shops, cafes, parks and recreational areas. For those who love getting outdoors, the Gippsland Heritage Walk at Kernot Lake tells the history of Gippsland. Start with the Gippsland Immigration Wall of Recognition before moving on to the local Gunaikurnai history panels.
Nearby you can discover Morwell National Park and Tarra-Bulga National Park.

Morwell has a thriving arts community, being home to the Latrobe Regional Gallery as well as multiple public artworks such as ‘The Ascending Christ’, a mural by Arthur Boyd. But Morwell is perhaps best known for the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden, a sprawling parkland featuring over 3,500 stunning roses. This international award-winning garden is a must-see for visitors and locals alike.
